State women push for better political representation
CHANDIGARH: Hoping to achieve equal participation in legislature for women, a meeting of women of all caste in Haryana was held at Manas village of Kaithal on Sunday.
Women president of Jat Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat Satosh Dahiya chaired the proceedings of 'All Women Sarv Jatiya Khap Mahapanchayat'. The marked the launch of a special drive to ensure entry of more women in state assemblies and both houses of Parliament.
Speaking on the occasion, Dahiya urged the elected women representatives of panchayat and civic bodies to ensure their presence in all the meetings.

"For the past so many years, laws related fix 33% reservation of women in legislature are hanging fire. At the same time you see the performance of women in gram panchayats the first step of true democracy. Now, we have decided to fight for this cause. We shall take this issue to all the MLAs and MPs. After taking their endorsement, we shall put our case before the prime minister to bring in the legislation," she said.
"We admit that there could be stray cases wherein men are representing their wives who are panch or sarpanch. We are not against them taking some guidance from their husband. But elected women should take the final decision," added Dahiya.
