The Health Department organised a rickshaw rally to create awareness among residents regarding the three-day pulse polio immunisation drive (migratory round) that started here today. Later, Civil Surgeon, Dr Pardeep Chawla, inaugurated the drive by administering polio drops to children at Bhai Mohkam Singh Satellite Hospital here.

The drive would continue till May 31, he added. The Civil Surgeon said a total of 1.48 lakh children below five years of age had been identified for administration of polio drops. “Children below five years are to be administered polio drops during the drive,” he added.

The department has constituted as many as 861 teams to cover the population in district.

Dr Chawla said, “As many as 1,772 employees and volunteers are rendering their services during the immunisation drive. To ensure coordination among the teams, the department has assigned duties to 151 supervisors.”
