Fatehabad, May 28
The Fatehabad chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decried the registration of criminal cases against three doctors, a nurse and some other persons of General Hospital here for negligence after the death of a patient.
Members of the IMA met here today under their president Dr Dinesh Sanduja and alleged that guidelines of the Supreme Court, which say no doctor will be booked for medical negligence except on a report by a medical panel, had been violated by the police.
The district police yesterday booked Senior Medical Officer Dr OP Dahmiwal, Deputy Civil Surgeon Girish, nurse Balwinder and some unknown persons under Section 304-A of the IPC after a 19-year-old youth died during treatment.
The doctors alleged that the youth was an addict and was brought in a very critical condition. The doctors maintained that the youth’s family had refused to take him to Maharaja Agarsen Medical College, Agroha, despite medical advice. The doctors demanded immediate cancellation of the FIR.
Fatehabad SP OP Narwal, however, said the police lodged the FIR as per the statement of the victim’s kin. —TNS
