MUMBAI: India's karting sensation Nayan Chatterjee finished fifth in the fourth round of the KRS-KKS Asia Rotax Max Challenge in Malaysia on Sunday, despite encountering a crash and machine problems.
The 18-year-old was in a bit of a spot since Saturday due to a crash in Heat 2. Nayan had to switch to his old chassis after the one he used during the heats got damaged. He began the pre-finals on 14th position.
But the national champion romped back home with a podium finish.
Nayan struggled the whole of Friday and Saturday due to a power valve malfunction, which didn't let the kart's pace reach its optimum.
However, the young racer showed grit and endurance in maintaining high speed till the end to finish fifth.
"This was by far the most difficult race for me. It's been a tough weekend. I have struggled a lot to achieve this success," said Nayan.
