Gearing for reopening of schools

With the Corporation, government and panchayat schools to reopen on June 1, Education Department officials were instructed to ensure that all the welfare schemes in place for school students should be disbursed on time.

At a meeting presided over by Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare P. Benjamin, it was announced that Rs. 3,300 crore had been allocated for the implementation of welfare schemes for school students through the 2016-17 academic year. Officials were further asked to ensure timely availability of free textbooks, notebooks and uniforms when the schools reopen. Additionally, all District Educational Officers have been asked to ensure sanitation and hygiene on the school campuses.
