A maternity ward patient in the Government District Headquarters hospital in Kancheepuram had a narrow escape on Saturday after a ceiling fan reportedly fell on the bed on which she was convalescing.

Enquiries reveal that the 24-year-old woman from the Vaiyavur was admitted at the maternity ward four days ago and lost her child at the time of delivery.

She was asked to stay back at the hospital for a week as she was weak.

On Saturday morning, sources said, at around 10 a.m., the ceiling fan fitted right above the bed on which she was lying suddenly got detached and fell very close to her.

While eyewitnesses, including the caretaker of the patient, confirmed the incident, hospital sources neither confirmed the incident nor denied it. However, a senior medical officer said that the patient who was involved in the incident did not suffer any injury.
