Coimbatore: The 28 wards that get water supply from the Siruvani pipeline will get water only once in six days until the south west monsoon sets in, said civic body officials.
"Once the monsoon sets in, we will be able to again regularise the water supply and supply water once in two days," said an engineer.
Local minister for municipal administration S P Velumani convened a meeting on Saturday with all the senior officials to check the water situation.

The Tamil Nadu water and drainage board officials also took part in the meeting. Officials said that there was 35cm of water in Siruvani, currently. "Despite this, we could tap the 7-8 feet of water that is available under the dead storage. This water could be supplied until June 10," said an official.
As per predictions, the monsoon will set in after June 10. "There have been prediction for some showers from May 30 as well. We are hopeful that the situation would improve after that," said the official.
The main localities falling in this list include Velandipalayam, Seeranaickenpalayam, Veerakeralam, Poosaripalayam, Telungupalayam, Sundakkamuthur, Lawley Road, Selvapuram Housing Unit and Kovaipudur. On Friday, residents near Town Hall that get Siruvani water supply protested. On Saturday, residents of Subramaniapuram, Periasamy Road and Venkatasamy Road did not receive water on the scheduled date.

"In some areas, we will divert Aliyar water and in many other areas, Pillur II scheme will be diverted for water supply," said an official.
Many residents in R S Puram on Saturday said they were appalled at the official apathy. "They neither inform us about the change in water supply dates nor give us any information. If we are aware that we would get water supply only once in six days, we would prepare ourselves according to that. In the morning, we wake up at 5 am expecting to fill water and get to know that we will not get water that day," said a resident.
Another resident said they asked private lorries to supply water. "When we got to know that the Siruvani levels had dipped, we apprehended such a situation and hence prepared ourselves," said Anitha, a resident.
