Berhampur: Mystery shrouds the death of a 13-year-old boy, whose body was found from an abandoned septic tank on the roadside at Sama, 35 km from here, under Ganjam district's Purushottampur police limits on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Pradip Pradhan, a student of Class VIII in a local school. He was missing since Tuesday. Police recovered the body by dismantling the broken tank and sent it for postmortem.
While Kasturi Pradhan, the mother of the deceased, alleged that her son was killed by miscreants, police said the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.
"The cause could be ascertained only after getting the postmortem report," said IIC, Purushottampur police station, B K Sahu.
Police pressed into service the dog squad and the scientific team for investigation.
Kasturi said her family had no enmity with anyone. The boy's father is working in Mumbai.
Tension prevailed in the village when several residents demanded immediate arrest of the killers. At least four platoons of forces have been deployed in the village. Police have detained two persons, including a teenage boy of the village, suspecting their hands in the murder.
Police said the child had gone to attend tuition on Tuesday evening. He did not return home. The family members searched him but in vain. When they did not find him, his mother lodged a missing complaint with police. Police registered a missing case and started a search to locate him.
