K.G. George honoured

The 25th Muttathu Varkey Award was presented to filmmaker K.G. George for his screenplay for the film, Irakal , canned some 30 years ago.

Senior journalist Thomas Jacob presented the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.50,000 besides a citation and a statuette. Mr. Jacob recalled his association with Mr. George that began at the preview of the filmmaker’s debut outing, Swapnadanam. “His craftsmanship was outstanding in all his films,” he said.

Writer C.R. Omanakkuttan spoke about the bond he had shared with the multifarious writer Muttathu Varkey, culling out anecdotes from his life that showed why he was a popular writer. - Special Correspondent
