PUNE: The Samarth police on Friday arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl at his residence in Bhavani Peth on Wednesday.
The youth has been remanded in police custody till June 3.
Police said that the suspect was in the balcony when he spotted the girl, the daughter of a domestic help, alone at her residence as her mother was out for work.

Senior inspector Dattatraya Patil, in-charge of the Samarth police station, said that the suspect took the girl to his residence on the pretext of giving her some chocolates, locked the doors and windows and then raped her around 11.45am.
He said that the survivor told her mother about the incident when her mother returned home in the evening. When the mother sought an explanation from the youth, he denied it.
"The 26-year-old mother registered a complaint against the suspect under the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act after her daughter complained of severe pain and developed an infection on Thursday. The suspect was arrested instantly. The girl, during inquiry, gave details of the incident and the name of the suspect. The medical report was also positive when she was examined at a government hospital," Patil said.

The suspects and the survivor's families have been in the same place for the last few months because their houses are undergoing construction as part of a slum rehabilitation scheme. Their temporary residence is at a chawl in Bhavani Peth, police said.
The suspect has studied up to Class 7. The rape survivor is not going to school. Her mother works as domestic help in some houses for earning her bread and butter.
