Man ends life, blames wife, daughter
Nagpur: A 38-year-old man committed suicide allegedly due to relentless torture by his wife at Shrikrishna Dham in Koradi on Thursday.
Deepak Tiwari is learnt to have taken the drastic step to consume poison after being driven to desperation by wife Kavita, who is allegedly involved with a gang engaged in immoral activities. Police have now registered an offence of abetment to suicide against seven, including Deepak’s wife and daughter, after coming across his suicide note in which the victim had mentioned about their involvement.
A native of Jabalpur, Tiwari had shifted to Koradi along with his wife and two daughters a few years ago. Deepak was earning his livelihood by driving autorickshaw.
Apart from wife Kavita and their 16-year-old daughter, police have registered offences against Deepak’s sister-in-law Rekha Sakhre and her husband Jitendra. Others booked in the case included Kavita’s accomplices Sunita Thakre, Rani and Mayuri Jaiswal.
Police said Kavita was part of an immoral racket which she operated from her residence. Kavita had already drawn her elder daughter into the illegal activities. Once Deepak had spotted elder daughter in compromising position too. While Deepak had opposed his family members’ unscrupulous activities at home, Kavita wanted him to be a part too. It’s learnt that Kavita had been insisting Deepak to join their racket as she wanted to use the rooms at their residence for the immoral activities.

As Deepak continued to oppose such activities at home, Kavita and her accomplices started harassing Deepak. Kavita also threatened Deepak to implicate him in a false case. Following the ploy, Kavita and Rani had lodged a complaint of molestation against Deepak at Koradi police station last week. Police had arrested Deepak. He was later released on bail. Subsequently, Kavita lodged similar complaint at Mankapur police station with the help of her co-conspirator Mayuri stating that Deepak had molested the girl. Mankapur police got suspicious about the complaint as one of the senior officers had heard Mayuri’s reference from a teenager while probing a gang of blackmailers who had lured unassuming youngsters in sex traps only to extort substantial amounts from them. The gang has been now busted earlier this month. Police have also slapped stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) on the gang now.
Despite a strong suspicion, Mankapur police had to register the offence of outraging of modesty against Deepak as per the guidelines on dealing on atrocities against women. Though the offence was registered, the cops decided not to arrest Deepak.
On Thursday, Deepak had called up his brothers in Jabalpur revealing them his intention to end life. Deepak had also penned a suicide note at this point which he handed over to a neighbour before taking the extreme step. Later, Deepak consumed some beverages laced with poison. The neighbours had later handed over the suicide note to the cops after Deepak’s death. A case was later registered at Koradi police station following complaint from Deepak’s younger brother Virendra.
