PANAJI: Goa found itself in the top league when the Class X results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were declared on Saturday afternoon.
The state saw 99.45% candidates clear the test, only a fraction behind those registered by other states in the Chennai region like Puducherry (99.92%), Andhra Pradesh (99.84%), Karnataka (99.84%), Telangana (99.83%), Tamil Nadu (99.78%) and Maharashtra (99.68%).

Of the 903 that appeared from Goa for the exam, 898 cleared it and five were eligible for improvement of performance (EIOP). All of the 404 girls who took the exam were declared successful. Of the 499 boys that appeared, five were declared EIOP.
From Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Canacona, 74 students took the exam, of which 23 attained a distinction, 39 got a first class and 11 second class. Ashwin Radhakrishnan, Crasmit Bhatt and Meshma Metri scored a commendable 10 on 10 cumulative grade points average (CGPA). School principal S Kannan said, “This year’s results were more or less the same. I expect them to improve in the coming year.”
At Old Goa’s Sunshine Worldwide School, 50 students answered this year, of which 34 students excelled with a score of above 8 out of 10. School principal John Dinakaran said, “The results have been great. Three students achieved a 10/10 CGPA.”
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Valpoi, saw two students, Divya S Thakur Deshmukh and Sonu Maruti Harijan, obtaining a 10/10 CGPA. Nikita Gopal Sawant and Pritam Vilas Parab scored 9.8. “They have done wonderfully well,” said school principal Sivanathan M. Sixty-four students appeared for the exams.

Vidya Vikas Academy of Margao had a total of 103 students appearing this year, where 72 got a distinction and 22 a first class, while nine passed with a second class. Sixteen students from the school scored 10/10. Principal Alan Rodrigues said, “I’m happy for the students and the tremendous effort they have put in. The results this year have greatly improved.” Among the top scorers of the school were Amanda Dias, Kurt Figueiredo, Surabhi Aswath, Carrie Rodrigues, Julles Rodrigues, Yash Naik, Annjanay Kamat and Karan Sudhir.
Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Vasco, registered cent per cent result, with 43 of its students23 boys and 20 girlsgetting a 10/10 CGPA. Principal Roopa Katiyar said, “The results were exceedingly good, the school has worked hard throughout the year. All students, including the average ones, have performed well, and we break our own records every year.”
Kings School in South Goa saw 123 students appear for the CBSE Class X exams of which 16 students scored a full CGPA. While 106 students attained distinctions, 17 secured a first class. The school’s director, Ligia Pereira, said, “Our students paid attention to academics and extracurricular activities. Our teachers, too, were brought out the best in the students and, as a school, we did our best to foster an environment that enhances progress.”
