Police official handling Jaya assets case gets extension
CHENNAI: Inspector general A M S Gunaseelan, officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) who is handling chief minister J Jayalalithaa's disproportionate assets case, was given another extension - his fourth - by the government on Saturday.
Gunaseelan was to retire on May 31, 2013. He took charge as IG, DVAC on May 23, 2011 and held the additional charge of the joint director and his tenure at the DVAC included raids at residences of DMK politicians with ministerial portfolios in the previous regime.
In November 2012, DVAC conducted search on the premises of former DMK ministers Veerapandi S Arumugam, K Ponmudy, K N Nehru, T M Anbarasan, K P P Samy, Durai Murugan and Pongalur Palanisamy in connection with disproportionate assets cases. tnn
An agricultural science graduate, the Madurai-native Gunaseelan was selected by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission in 1985 and joined as deputy superintendent of police in the police force.
