Jilted lover sets woman afire in Faridkot

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly set ablaze by her jilted lover in the Baazigar Basti here today. She succumbed to burn injuries at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in the evening.

According to the police, the youth, identified as Babbu Singh, and his two friends set Baljit Kaur, a member of an orchestra party, on fire after pouring kerosene on her.

He was upset as Baljit had rejected his marriage proposal.

The woman, who was living with her son in the Baazigar Basti, was rushed to the hospital with 80 per cent burn injuries.

On the basis of her statement to the police, recorded shortly before her death, the police booked Babbu Singh and his accomplices. A murder case has been registered against them.

Investigation officer Gurmit Singh said the police were searching for the accused.
