Blood transfusion every 45 days, still he scores perfect 10
CHANDIGARH: Harsh Murthy Sharma had to skip school not out of choice but compulsion. Despite suffering from pure red cell aplasia, a rare disease which requires blood transfusion in every 45 days, the 16-year-old scored 10 CGPA in CBSE Class X exams.
His mother Vimal Sharma said since he had to miss out on school for days because of the medical condition he suffered, he would make up for that by devoting extra hours of study.

While his father was pursuing MEd, Harsh used to read out chapters and record it for his father Ram Murthy Sharma, who is blind and a Hindi teacher at a government school in Derabassi. "My concepts got clear as I would read out chapters and record it for my father. It helped my father and cleared my concepts as well," said Harsh, adding the support he got from his parents had been encouraging.
"We never let him feel that his medical condition should affect his life. We have trained him the way that he has learnt to live with it normally and made the disease a part of his life," said his father.
Diagnosed with the medical condition when he was three months old, Harsh had never let that affect his personal life. An avid follower of cricket, he said, "You can test my knowledge in cricket. I know it all."
Besides, reading his textbooks, Harsh is fond of reading works of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. He wants to join civil services. His love for social science has prompted him to take arts stream.
"In July last year, Harsh suffered from typhoid. In Class IX, he had suffered from bone TB. He has to skip school. But thankfully, we never have to pester him to study. He knows how to manage it all," said his mother, who is partially blind. She added the teachers of his school Shishu Niketan helped Harsh a lot in studies and the school also provided him free education.
