Man arrested for raping, killing girlfriend

Kanpur: A 27-year-old man in Fatehpur district allegedly lured his girlfriend to a jungle, raped her and with the help of his two accomplices strangulated her.
The murder was committed on May 24 but came to light on Saturday. The accused identified as Amit Kumar Raidas and his accomplice Sanjay from Chitnapur village, were arrested.
The 24-year-old girl's parents lodged a complaint with Husainganj police.Her body with strangulation marks was recovered in an orchard in Saatmeel jungle on May 25.
The police said they are conducting raids in search of the third accused identified as Vijay. SP Fatehpur Kalanidhi Naithani said that Amit and the girl rode on a motorcycle from Fatehpur to Saatmeel on May 24. Sanjay and Vijay also reached there.
"Amit took the girl inside the jungle and raped her. Then he called Sanjay and Vijay and the three killed her. They left the body in an eucalyptus orchard and fled," Naithani added. On the basis of suspicion raised by the girl's parents, the mobile phones of Amit and the other two were put under e-surveillance.
"Amit and the girl wanted to marry each other but suspecting her illicit relationship with another youth, he dropped the idea of marrying her. When the girl came to know about Amit's decision, she threatened to get him booked under Dowry Act. Amit then decided to kill her," the SP added.
