Congress flays PM Modi for failure to appoint Lokpal
GOA: Questioning the Narendra Modi government for going on soft on allegations of corruption against Bharatiya Janta Party leaders, the Congress on Saturday slammed the union government for its failure to appoint the Lokpal despite completing two years in office.
"The Congress was criticized and blamed for not passing the Lokpal Bill. Reaching a compromise, we got it passed.
It has been two years now, why has Modi not appointed the Lokpal? Is it waiting for the last year of its rule so that its scams cannot be brought up?" All India Congress Committee spokesperson Sanjay Jha said.
Jha highlighted the multi-crore Public Distribution Scheme scam in Chhattisgarh, the Vyapam scamadmission and recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh, Lalitgate, and the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) scam. "India has become like a fish market on corruption during Modi's rule," Jha said.
The Congress also slammed Modi for wasting public money on the publicity campaign to celebrate two years in office. "Does Modi have the right to take taxpayers money and spend on an excessive extravagance with Bollywood stars?" Jha asked.
