Constituent colleges of Allahabad University to start PG courses

Allahabad: Following the decision of the authorities of Allahabad University for starting postgraduate courses in constituent colleges of AU, the varsity authorities have started the process for recommending the courses that could start in these colleges. For the purpose, different committees have visited these colleges and inspected the infrastructure on the basis of which the courses can be recommended.
AU authorities have constituted different committees for science, arts, commerce and law streams.The team members, comprising of senior faculty members from various departments of the four faculty of AU (science, arts, commerce and law) visited the constituent colleges of AU and inspected the facilities and number of teachers in the respective departments.
The colleges included ECC, CMP, SS Khanna, Allahabad Degree College and Shyama Prasad Degree College which were visited by the recommending teams.
On the basis of preliminary recommendations of the committees, ECC could get the permission for running PG courses in Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany, Maths and Statistics. Among the subjects of Arts stream, this college can start PG in English and Hindi literature. Although the college also wanted to start PG in Philosophy but because of the fact that the college has only two sanctioned posts for the subject, the committee refused the permission.
For starting PG in any given subject, the college or the institution should have at least four sanctioned posts in the given subject.
Likewise, CMP could get the permission for PG in Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Maths, Philosophy, Hindi, Medieval history, English and Ancient history. The college wanted the permission for running PG in Physics but despite having good infrastructure for the subject, it does not have any sanctioned posts.
For Allahabad Degree College (ADC), AU can give approval for Physics, Maths, Philosophy, Hindi, Medieval History and Ancient History. Similarly, Shyama Prasad degree college can get the approval for running PG in Chemistry and Hindi and SS Khanna can get approval for Philosophy only. This college is in the process of developing its infrastructure in terms for subjects of Science stream but the approval for running PG in these courses would be given for the next academic session (2017-18).
PG in commerce i.e. MCom can start in two of the constituent colleges including CMP and ADC.
AU PRO, Prof Yogeshwar Tiwari said, “now that the committees have visited the colleges, they would submit the recommendations to the V-C, AU would be finely giving approval”.
