Steve Morison is desperate to get Millwall back into the Championship so they can 'welcome' the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa to The Den.

The Lions take on Barnsley in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday as they bid to bounce straight back from last season's relegation.

And skipper Morison is licking his lips at the prospect of the fallen Premier League giants turning up at their hostile south London home next term.

"The Championship will be great next year," he said. "Rafa Benitez has just signed a three-year deal at Newcastle - amazing.

"I think it's the toughest league out of all of them. If we get there we'll have some enjoyable times.

"No, teams don't like playing at Millwall. But we didn't like playing at Millwall at the start of the season, when we lost our first four games, so imagine what it's like for other people now we are enjoying it.

"It took a bit of time, a bit of patience and a bit of belief, but we turned it round and now it's a bit of a fortress."

Former Leeds and Norwich striker Morison has enjoyed a fine season, chipping in with 19 goals and forming a prolific partnership with Lee Gregory.

Both players have taken the non-league route to Wembley, Morison having broken through at Stevenage and Gregory arriving at the Lions two years ago from Halifax.

"It's amazing to think I had four years in non-league and within the space of two seasons got into the Premier League with Norwich and international football with Wales," added the 32-year-old.

"The only difference between me and Jamie Vardy is he nearly won the golden boot and won the Premier League. It's only a little bit better than me!

"But it's fantastic, he's done amazing and it's something I've been very proud of too. It's been a short career for me, but I've managed to achieve quite a lot, and it's only now you start to realise it.

"This has been my most complete season, I would say. I think no-one can take away playing in the Premier League, and scoring 10 goals in my first season there.

"But this season I've managed to contribute in all different areas. I've really enjoyed myself, struck up a great relationship with Gregs and we've scored 47 goals between us.

"It's culminated in leading the team out on Sunday at Wembley, and hopefully finishing off at quarter past five by picking up the trophy."
