Rajesh Roshan, son of the legendary music composer Roshan, came in during the early ‘70s when the industry was in the grip of the RD Burman and Laxmikant-Pyarelal fever. He broke new ground with his versatile melodies. Beginning with the massy score of Kunwara Baap, later his sensuous undertones in Julie wooed the audience. He could also balance the sentimental flavour of Basu Chatterjee’s offbeat films, Swami, Baton Baton Mein, Priyatama, Khatta Meetha, with the perky score for Amitabh Bachchan’s films like Mr Natwarlal, Khuddar, Do Aur Do Paanch and Yaarana. Not to forget his tryst with the country ‘item’ number Mungda mungda for Inkaar.
But what remains overriding is his music for big brother Rakesh Roshan’s films right from Khudgarz, Khoon Bhari Maang, Kishen Kanhaiya, Karan Arjun and later nephew Hrithik Roshan’s – from Kaho Naa Pyar Hai to Krrish 3… Currently, he’s working on the score of Hrithik’s starrer Kaabil, produced by Rakesh Roshan and directed by Sanjay Gupta. The talented musician insists he’s happy composing at his own pace and believes in enjoying the process.
