Allahabad: District and city Congress committee members paid homage to first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru to commemorate his 51st death anniversary on Friday. Partymen reached Anand Bhawan, the Nehru residence, and garlanded Panditji's portrait.
Addressing the shraddhanjali sabha, former mayor Chowdhry Jitendra Nath Singh said, "Jawahar Lal Nehru was the prime architect of modern India.
He established the basic infrastructure of the country in his 17-year tenure. He was also the leader of Commonwealth and Non-Aligned Movement."
UPCC spokesman Kishore Varshney said, "Nehru's contribution has got diluted over the years by misrepresentation and distortion."
