Three school girls from Jammu and Kashmir scale Mount Everest

Three NCC girl cadets of NCC Directorate Jammu and Kashmir have scaled the Mt Everest, SD Goswami, defence spokesperson said.

They were part of first ever all girls Mt Everest expedition of the NCC which scaled the summit on May 21 and 22,?? he said.

The three girl cadets are Stanzlin Laskit, Tashi Laskit and Tsering Angmo. All the three hail from Leh and are students of Class XII, Govt Higher Secondary School, Leh.

SELECTION PROCESS
The spokesman said that these cadets had been training hard for the past two years and were selected after a very rigorous training and selection process.100 cadets were selected by trials held pan-India. The selected cadets then underwent a special mountain course at HMI, Darjeeling. pre-Everest expedition to Mt Deo-Tibba (19688 ft), near Manali in Himachal Pradesh was conducted for 40 cadets in April-May 2015. 15 cadets were selected for the next phase based on their performance,?? he said.

In August 2015, the team set off on second pre-Everest expedition to Mt Trishul (23360 ft), and selected 10 girl cadets for Everest expedition. These ten cadets thereafter did a month long intensive winter training in Siachen Glacier at the Indian Armys Siachen Battle School, before setting course for Nepal,?? the spokesman said.

The team divided themselves into two teams, the first team attempted to scale the Everest on May 21, 2016 and were successful in their first attempt whereas Team2 attempted to scale the Everest on May 22, 2016 and were also successful.

Major Gen SS Jakhar, additional director general said that these girls by their outstanding achievement have brought the women power of the state to the forefront. He said the achievers will be suitably felicitated and rewarded on their return.
