Gurgaon: A 22-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Sikanderpur on Thursday evening. The woman's husband — who works as a private detective — told police that the couple had recently had a marital dispute, which could have pushed her to take the extreme step.
Manorama Rawat got married to Vichitra Rawat (26) five years ago. The couple, from Odisha, live in a rented accommodation in Sikanderpur — which falls under DLF Phase 1 — with their three-year-old son.
On Thursday evening, Manorama, who was a homemaker, was alone at home when women from the neighbourhood came to meet her at 6pm.
When after repeated knocking Manorama did not open the door, the women got suspicious. The women then peeped through the window and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
Police said no suicide note was found in the room. Her husband said the couple had recently had a marital dispute over Manorama's pregnancy, police said. Vichitra stated that Manorama was pregnant for the second time but wanted to abort her pregnancy, while he wanted to keep the child, police said.
After recording the husband's statement, police contacted the woman's parents and asked them to come over for the legal formalities.
"We have completed the formalities under Section 174 of CrPC," said ACP Hawa Singh. "We are waiting for the woman's parents to arrive from Odisha because we need their consent before conducting the postmortem. The procedure is also important to establish if the woman was pregnant," he said.
