Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched an immediate relief intervention for Iraqis displaced by the recent military escalation, which has resulted in a higher displacement from Fallujah.
As the first humanitarian organisation to respond to the crisis, QRCS has begun distributing food packages to the displaced families.
So far, 250 families have received food aid as against the targeted number of 1,500. Two mobile medical clinics have been despatched to offer health care to those who have newly arrived. QRCS now has five mobile clinics in Fallujah.
The intervention is part of the second phase of QRCS's relief programme in Fallujah, which has received $1 million from Qatar Development Fund (QDF).
In the first phase, QRCS personnel distributed 6,000 food packages to 36,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Fallujah, Al-Anbar, operated three mobile clinics to offer primary medical care to more than 80,000 IDPs and despatched two tankers to provide 20,000 people with drinking water every day for six months. They launched awareness campaigns to promote personal hygiene and prevent communicable diseases.
QRCS mission in Iraq has been coordinating with international humanitarian organisations, providing them with information about the situation on the ground. According to an estimate, 50,000 Iraqi families have fled the clashes in the last few days.
