Ahmedabad: Crime branch sleuths on Friday recorded the statement of PSI Chandrakala Jadeja, who is accused in the liquor party bribery case.
Crime branch sources said the recording of the statement lasted nearly six hours during which PSI Jadeja confessed to having spoken on the phone with one of the witnesses, Bhavin Rathod.
"However, Jadeja denied accepting any bribe following the conversation.
We seized her cell phone and will be send it for forensic examination to DFS Gandhinagar," said a senior crime branch official.
Meanwhile, investigators are probing the role of a police staffer at Satellite police station, who is suspected to have collected the money from the victim. "We are also probing whether PSI Jadeja received money or not," added a senior crime branch official.
In the early hours of May 8, PSI Jadeja and two constables of Satellite police station raided a flat in Asawari Tower, and arrested 25 people, for allegedly having a liquor party. Among those arrested was senior Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia's son Parth Modhwadia, a crime branch official said.
Later, Arjun Modhwadia alleged that PSI Jadeja demanded a bribe of Rs 11 lakh and accepted Rs 4 lakh. "Modhwadia also provided an audio clip, allegedly of a conversation between Bhavin Rathod and PSI Jadeja with regard to the bribe," added a senior crime branch official.
