6 BDDS jawans injured in landmine blast
Chandrapur: Six jawans of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were injured in an explosion of landmine while they were defusing it at MIDC ground in Gadchiroli on Thursday evening. One of the jawans has been shifted to Nagpur for treatment while five others are being treated at civil hospital in Gadchiroli. According to police, Naxalites had planted a landmine on Gyrapatti-Kotgul road near Pitesur village in Kurkheda division.
Kotgul police received a tip-off about the planned sabotage. Accordingly, special operation squad and Kotgul police excavated the 35 kg landmine on Thursday morning.
The landmine was later brought to Gadchiroli for disposal.
BDDS squad took the landmine to MIDC ground for disposal. In the process, the landmine exploded and injured six jawans.
The injured include BDDS members Ravikant Madavi, Rahul Kirange, Rajendra Choudhari, Pankaj Uike, Vitthal Bramhankar and Dilip Surjagade. All six were admitted to Gadchiroli civil hospital. Later, Rajendra Choudhari was shifted to Nagpur for emergency treatment.
Gadchiroli police confirmed the incident and claimed that all six injured jawans are out of danger.
