New tropical depression forms near Bahamas
Warnings issued for the Carolinas
The official start to the 2016 Atlantic tropical season doesn't begin until June 1. However, the second tropical system of the year has formed off the Bahamas.Tropical depression two formed Friday afternoon, east of the Bahamas, according to the National Hurricane Center.Sustained winds of 35 mph were reported by reconnaissance aircraft, leading to the determination by the NHC to begin issuing advisories.Tropical storm warnings well ahead of the system were posted for the South Carolina coastline. The forecast calls for the system to move west-northwest while intensifying into a tropical storm.If the tropical depression becomes a storm, it would be given the name Bonnie.Tropical storms must have sustained winds of between 39-73 mph.
