Educated youths taking up arms, says PDP lawmaker

Peoples Democratic Party leader and member of Legislative Council Firdous Tak today said that educated youths were taking up arms and there was an urgent need to address the problem.

“We have to engage all those who have a different opinion to address the internal dimensions of problem,” Tak said while participating in the discussion on the Governor’s address in the Legislative Council here today.

Minister of Education and Leader of Upper House Naeem Akhter today moved the motion of thanks on the Governor’s address in Legislative Council, which was seconded by Firdous Ahmad Tak and Yasir Reshi.

Speaking in favour of the motion, Tak said educated youths were taking up arms and it was a dangerous trend. The PDP lawmaker requested the government to look into the issues seriously.

Without naming the previous National Conference-Congress government, the PDP leader said the break in reconciliation process and reversal of efforts for peace during the last five-six years have created this problem.

“However, if we do not wake up even now, we will have to face the consequences,” he said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made efforts for establishing peace with Pakistan.

“But there is a need to take these efforts forward. The government has to work on the internal dimensions of the problem. We have to talk to the stakeholders and youths on issues,” he said.

NC lawmaker Bashir Veeri hit out at the ruling government, saying they had eroded the special status of the state and even the supremacy of state legislature.

Congress lawmaker Ghulam Nabi Monga said the government had sidelined the panchayats and the government was silent on empowering them.
