DRAGONS and gnomes popped out from the facade of the grand old Customs House at Circular Quay last night as the 2016 Vivid Light festival turned up the dial on contemporary technology.
The dazzling display was the product of free-to-use tablets and smartphones equipped with the latest augmented reality systems outside the historic Sydney landmark, taking Australian artist Jason French’s light projection Sydney’s Hidden Stories to a new level of awesome.
“It’s the best and brightest Vivid we’ve ever done,” artistic director Ignatius Jones said.
“In terms of what we’re doing technically and artistically we’re really stretching the envelope.”

READ NOWVivid Light, which runs until June 18, is on view from Darling Harbour and Walsh Bay right round to the Royal Botanic Garden, which joins Taronga Zoo as a new light precinct this year.
Interactive light works will enable visitors to design their own colour displays for Circular Quay building facades, to control a mechanical dinosaur and to look into a magic mirror.
