First phase of elevated road to be opened to traffic by October this year
NOIDA: The first phase of Noida's maiden elevated road will be completed and thrown open to traffic in October this year. The 3.80-km stretch, which will be completed will connect Shopprix Mall in sector 61 to NTPC cross roads near sector 24 of Noida. Located on Master Plan road-II, the Rs 415 crore, 6-km overhead stretch is being constructed from Vishwa Bharti School (Sector 28) and will link Shopprix Mall (Sector 61).
The project is expected to be complete by October 2017 and will ensure signal free traffic movement along the busy route besides providing commuters seamless travel to Ghaziabad, Delhi and Greater Noida.
According to officials, both carriageways of the 3.80 stretch will be completed by October. "Currently, ramps for ingress and egress for vehicles are being put into place at both the Shopprix as well as the NTPC crossings," said a senior Noida Authority official. "Once this work is complete, we will be able to throw open the road for traffic. We are aiming for a Diwali deadline," he added.
Part of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's project, the foundation for the project was laid in April last year and project was commissioned in October 2014. Once complete, the 16.63-metre-wide (with two 7.5-metre-wide lanes on both sides) elevated road with exits and entry provisions at Nithari, sector 30 and NTPC, sector 24 will ensure seamless flow of traffic at busy stretches along its route as about seven points on this stretch will become signal-free. About one lakh vehicles pass through the Sector 62 area. Commuters use the stretch to reach Ghaziabad via NH-24 and East Delhi. Several hundred vehicles also drive towards Greater Noida West area from Film City via the City Centre and Uflex route.
Currently under construction and about 62% complete, Noida Authority officials are trying their best to provide commuters with minimum diversions and disruption of traffic in the area. Only one lane on each side of the central verge on both carriageways of the existing road over which the elevated road is being constructed is blocked for traffic.
