OAS Electoral Observation Mission in Peru Begins Final Deployment

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Peru, headed by former Uruguayan Foreign Minister Sergio Abreu, began the final deployment of 72 international experts and observers that will accompany the second round of the presidential election on Sunday, June 5.
The Chief of Mission arrives Wednesday and will hold high-level meetings with governmental and electoral authorities, political parties, members of civil society and the diplomatic corps in Peru. On election day, members of the Mission will witness the development of the process.
The EOM/OAS continues the work of observation that began in March during the first round of the general elections on April 10. Following the first round of voting, the Mission presented a report with observations and recommendations on political-electoral financing, the vote abroad, the participation of women, indigenous people and people of African descent in the electoral process, as well as political communication.
This is the eighteenth Electoral Observation Mission deployed by the OAS in the country.
