Two teens on picnic feared drowned in sea at Vasai
MUMBAI: Two teens on a picnic are believed to have drowned in the Suruchi beach in Vasai on Friday. The fire brigade and local fishermen have launched a search for the friends.
According to the Vasaigaon police, Prathmesh Yesupad, Hitesh Patil and Aakash Jogdand, all 17 years and class 12th students went for a picnic to the Suruchi beach at Vasai on Friday afternoon.
The boys spend several hours in the water. By 3 pm, Aakash returned to the shore while Prathmesh and Hitesh continued to swim.
Aakash who was watching and waving at his friends, heard them scream and thought they were having fun. Soon the screams got louder and the boys began to drown. Aakash called for help and local fishermen jumped into the water but were unable to rescue the boys who are believed to have been carried away by the strong current.
Aakash told the police that his friends knew how to swim but they had ventured deep into the sea. Police said that the boys, residents of Achole in Nalasopara (west) may have misjudged the depth of the water. The fire brigade along with fishermen have launched a search for the boys.
It is not known whether the boys had gone for a picnic without informing their families. It was Aakash who called up his friends parents to inform them about the drowning.
