Former Tottenham manager Juande Ramos has taken charge of La Liga side Malaga on a three-year deal.

Ramos, who was in charge at White Hart Lane for a single year between 2007 and 2008, replaces Javier Gracia, who is moving to Russian club Rubin Kazan.

"The reason for coming back is because I have some lasting memories, and the project is very interesting," said Ramos, who previously coached Malaga in 2003/04 before moving on to manage teams such as Sevilla and Real Madrid.

"The approach to the project is medium to long-term, and growing as much as the situation allows within the league.

"Professionally speaking, I have talked to those in charge at the club, they want to achieve important goals, and within the short to medium-term, we will improve a great deal.

"And we want to compete with the greats. They are extremely ambitious within this club, and that is really the reason for coming to Malaga."

In an interview published on Malaga's website, Gracia said that he had accepted an "irresistible offer" from Rubin for the next four seasons, a day after the Spanish club had announced his departure.
