Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man collapsed while reporting a burglary at a police station and later died.

Laurence French, 50, became seriously ill and collapsed at Middlesbrough police station at 21:30 BST on Wednesday. He died later in hospital.

Police believe Mr French may have been burgled at his home in Alwent Road before attending the station.

The three men, aged 39, 40 and 42, remain in police custody.

They have also been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

A fourth man, aged 66, has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

Mr French is believed to have been a vulnerable individual and may have been targeted because of it, Cleveland Police said.
