Pawan Kripalani, who in the past has directed and written horror movies like 'Ragini MMS' and 'Darr@The Mall', is excited about his new film titled 'Phobia'. Pawan's latest outing stars Radhika Apte in the lead role and is a psychological thriller. Pawan feels that such movies have a huge scope in Bollywood. The director was quoted as saying in a report in The Hindu, "Yes, of course, there is huge future for movies in this genre.
We do not see many movies coming up and succeeding in this genre because I think we are a society that is driven towards celebrating life. We like watching movies that are larger than life. Not many directors and writers are serious about this genre. But I think it will change with time because it is very profitable and has a very loyal fan base also. I am myself a huge loyalist of psycho-thrillers and would love to see more psycho thrillers and horror movies made in India. After 'Phobia' I am planning to do a few horror comedies, hopefully in 3D, which will be quite extravagant. I am also working on a couple of other ideas of horror movies."

Talking about his latest project, Pawan said in the interview to the daily, "'Phobia' is largely about what violence does to a person. We tend to address violence part in our movies and the media but what we ignore is the psychological aspect of it. Trauma changes a person instantly. This change, this metamorphosis of a person is what I wanted to explore. I wanted to explore whether trauma makes a person worse or does it make him stronger." he added, "I researched a lot about trauma and what trauma does to a person. We also researched about agoraphobia which is the subject of the movie. It is a very interesting disease. It is one of the phobias which is trauma induced, and so there I found something I could play with. We were clear that we were not going to treat the subject in a flimsy manner and wanted it to be a true portrayal of what a person suffering from trauma goes through."
