A motorist was fined for a somewhat unusual transgression in Tshwane: driving with tyres that could damage the road. The penalty issued by a Tshwane Metro Police Department officer simply read: “Vehicle equipped with worn tyres that could damage the road.”A fine of R125 was given.See the fine yourself:Front Nasionaal SA - blad Automobile Association of SA spokesperson Layton Beard said that while his organisation did not have all the details of the incident‚ the focus should be on the main problem on the fine – worn tyres.“Clearly worn tyres won’t damage the road. However‚ if an officer was issuing a fine for worn tyres‚ that is the law and it is being applied correctly‚” said Beard.“Worn tyres are a serious problem on our roads. For me that is the most important thing. People must understand that action has to be taken to people who are driving vehicles with worn tyres.”The fine was posted on the Facebook page of Front Nasionaal SA‚ a political party striving for Afrikaner self-determination.A post in Afrikaans accompanying the photo recommended that motorists in Pretoria check the tread of their tyres‚ as‚ according to the metro police‚ they are “apparently the cause of the pitfalls and general poor state of the roads in Gauteng”.“And here we sit…and think it has something to do with the lack of maintenance! We learn something new every day.”– TMG Digital..
