Jaipur: Long wait for drinking water for residents of Privthi Raj Nagar (PRN) is set to come to an end with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) having finally drawn a plan to develop infrastructure in the area.
As per the proposal, to supply drinking water from Bisalpur, the PHED will have to lay transmission lines, which will cost Rs 350 crore.
The proposal has been forwarded to the technical committee. An official informed that majority of expenditure cost will be borne by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA).
According to the officials, the department has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to supply drinking water in the north PRN region. However, the plan cannot be finalised due to non-availability of land. "To provide immediate relief to residents, we have decided to lay transmission lines. The proposal to lay internal lines has been put on hold," said a senior PHED official.
As the cost to supply drinking water has increased, the PHED officials are apprehensive that JDA might refuse to extend the financial support. "Earlier, the JDA had agreed to pay Rs 240 crore for supplying drinking water in PRN. Now, the PHED department will send a proposal of Rs 300 crore to JDA, after that technical committee will invite tenders to initiate the work," added an engineer
According to the previous plan, the PHED department had decided to supply Bisalpur water to PRN scheme in two phases. However, since this proposal was time consuming, the department prepared a new proposal. So far, the department has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to supply drinking water in the north PRN region. Now, the department has appointed PDCOR consultancy to prepare a survey report for south region.

"It would take nearly six months to prepare the DPR of south region. Along with PRN south region, the firm would also conduct a survey for supplying drinking water in Jamdoli region, Agra road. To make drinking water reach PRN, it would take at least two years," said a PHED official.
For north region, the PHED has estimated to supply 40 mld water per day from Bisalpur though the demand for the entire PRN scheme is around 85 mld of water. It would require time to develop the infrastructure for entire PRN.
