Telangana: Branch of a tree pierces the throat, man still survives

Branch from falling tree pierces truck driver's neck.

Nizamabad: A truck driver had a providential escape after the branch of a tree pierced his throat at Fathlapur village in Bichkunda mandal on Sangareddy-Nanded-Akola (SNA) highway on Thursday.

Strong winds uprooted an old banyan tree as the truck was passing on the road which fell on the vehicle. A branch pierced driver Gopal’s throat. The cleaner of the truck raised an alarm.

People from a nearby dhaba rushed to the truck and shifted the victim to a private hospital in Bichkunda. Later he was shifted to government hospital in Banswada. The doctors performed surgery and removed the branch from his throat.

Gopal hails from Madhya Pradesh and was on his way to Akola from Hyderabad. No police case was registered in this incident. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, truck cleaner Saddam said that the tree fell on their vehicle and a branch piercing Gopal’s throat. “I alerted people near the dhaba. Villagers from Fathlapur and Kandarpally also rushed to the spot and shifted the driver from the truck, he said.

Doctor Ravindra of government area hospital, Banswada, said that the tree branch pierced the skin around the driver’s throat. Had it got stuck in the throat, it would have been dangerous, he said. Timely shifting of victim to the hospital saved him, he added, he said.
