LOBAMBA – The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) are investigating a police officer who went to claim under the Workmen’s Compensation Fund three times for the same injury.

The police officer, Nhlanhla Reginald Matsebula as a result, yesterday, appeared before the Public Accounts Committee which is chaired by appointed MP Thuli Dladla to explain why he had continuously gone to make claims for the same injury which he suffered back in 2008, as he had already been compensated.

Constable Matsebula informed the PAC that he had visited the stall of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security at the Trade Fair, where he informed the officers that he found that he needed assistance in removing a metal plate in his shoulder which was inserted after he had a car accident in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, the report of the Auditor General stated that in 2009, government paid Matsebula E51 155.51.  The AG further revealed that the same police officer had previously submitted two workmen compensation claims amounting to E11 367 and E51 155.63 which were also paid.
The AG said, however, in her 2012 audit report she pointed out that the officer had not been entitled to the temporary disability compensation because he did not suffer any temporary loss of earnings since he continued to earn his salary during his period of abscence due to the injury.

All the payments were processed by the Labour Commissioner and were charged from the Workmen Compensation Fund, which was under the vote of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, but the ministry again processed another claim for the same officer amounting to E51 155 in respect of the same accident.
