An unauthorised railway ticket booking agent was arrested by Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Nagercoil on Thursday.

Based on a tip-off, RPF personnel conducted a surprise raid on the mobile shop of S. Rajahan (38) near Vadaserry Christopher bus stand, and found that he was collecting high charges from passengers for tickets booked online.

A special team, led by Inspector R. Narendran, conducted the raid after monitoring the shop for over two weeks, and found that he was also selling e-tickets booked in different names using fictitious ID through IRCTC website and was charging Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 over and above the actual ticket fares.

They also seized seven e-tickets and a desktop computer, modem and other electronic gadgets, used for booking tickets.

Rajahan was booked under Section 143 (penalty for carrying on business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets in an unauthorised manner) of The Railways Act, and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Nagercoil, who remanded him in judicial custody.

Mr. Narendran asked the people to book tickets only through authorised IRCTC agents and not to fall prey to fake agents.
