New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis missed out on an extra $24 million dollars as a result of not making any of the three All-NBA teams announced on Thursday afternoon.

Davis, who missed the final 14 games of the regular season with knee and shoulder injuries, stood to make the extra money – a result of the “Rose rule” –  after signing a five-year extension last summer. He would’ve triggered the pay day as part of a contract stipulation had he won league MVP, been named an All-Star starter twice, or was named to the All-NBA first, second or third team twice.

Thursday’s announcement ended his chances at a massive bonus. Instead, forwards Paul George of the Indiana Pacers and LaMarcus Aldridge of the San Antonio Spurs were named to the third team All-NBA.

For comparison’s sake, Davis averaged 24.3 points per game, 10.3 rebounds and two blocks in 61 games. George was at 23.1 points, seven rebounds and 4.1 assists in 81 games while Aldridge had averages of 18 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in 74 games.

Stephen Curry unanimously selected to All-NBA First Team

A panel of 129 sports writers and broadcasters were asked to vote for two guards, two forwards and a center fr each of the respective All-NBA teams.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard was a beneficiary of the rule and earned an extra $13 million, according to ESPN, after being named second-team All-NBA.
