Kurukshetra/Chandigarh: Erring on the side of caution, the Haryana government has sought help from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after eight people were injured in a minor blast caused by improvised device in a state transport bus on Thursday.
The government has also formed a special investigation team (SIT) under ADGP S S Kapoor as this is the third minor explosion in the state since January.

Senior police officials told The Times of India that they want to be sure that the explosions are not a precursor to something big that terrorists may be planning. The first blast had taken place on January 15 in the Panipat-Ambala passenger train which was stationed at the platform but no one was hurt in it. Forensic examination had confirmed that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been used. The second blast on May 12 too was at the same railway station. This time the train, the Delhi-Panipat passenger, was parked in the yard and had no passengers in it.
This second blast however had a higher intensity . Officials said all the blasts seem to have the same modus operandi which is one reason why the SIT has been formed.
The latest explosion took place near Pipli town of Kurukshetra when the bus was on its way to Chandigarh from Sonipat. A yellow bag with clothes was recovered from the bus in which a battery-like object had been placed. Police officials, forensic experts and a bomb squad reached the spot along with deputy inspector general of police Subhash Yadav.
Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Simardeep Singh said, “It's too early to categorically say that the three explosions are similar. We have involved the forensic team in the investigation.“ SIT has been asked to submit fortnightly pro gress reports to the state police headquarters.

The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Kuruksherta. State transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar said the state government would give financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to each of the injured.“The driver and conductor, both of whom suffered injuries, helped the injured,“ he said. “Letters of appreciation would be given to both of them.“
Kurukshetra chief medical officer Dr S K Nain said, “Four people have been admitted to the civil hospital with minor injuries and all are fine.“
