Fairfield Theatre Company Awarded Business Owner of the Year

FTC receives award from Connecticut Main Street Center.

Connecticut Main Street Center (CMSC) announced in early May that the Fairfield Theatre Company (FTC) has been awarded the 2016 CT Main Street Business Owner of The Year Award. FTC is honored to be the first-ever nonprofit to receive this title.

The Awards of Excellence was created in 2003 to recognize outstanding projects, individuals, and partnerships that bring traditional downtowns and commercial districts back to life, both socially and economically. FTC will be among five award recipients from around the state to be honored in Storrs, Conn. on Monday, June 6.

"There can be no doubt that Connecticut's downtowns play a strong role in maintaining Connecticut's quality of life," said Governor Daniel P. Malloy. "Not only are they economic drivers with their dense array of shops, restaurants, and businesses, but their cultural offerings, walkable streets, and modern housing contribute to a vibrant state. I congratulate this year's winners for continuing the tradition of downtown being the epicenter of ingenuity, opportunity and public discourse."

All submissions are judged by an impartial jury to assess innovation, replication, representation, sustainability, and outcome.

"We have never previously awarded the Business Owner of the Year award to a nonprofit," said Kimberley Partsons-Whitaker, Connecticut Main Street associate director. "This, together with the strong and compelling nomination of FTC is what impressed our jury in 2016. Not only is the business model and entrepreneurial approach examined and considered, but the impact of an award-worthy business owner on the whole of the downtown – which is critical to the jury's selection in this category."

First Selectman Mike Tetreau praised the award FTC received.

"On behalf of the Town of Fairfield, I wish to congratulate the Fairfield Theatre Company for receiving this prestigious award! FTC's quality shows and forums, as well as its newly opened versatile Warehouse, have helped our downtown become an even more vibrant destination for shopping, dining, arts and culture," Tetreau said. "Kudos to the entire FTC community for your forward-thinking approach that makes Fairfield Center the place to visit!"

FTC Producing Artistic and Executive Director John Reid expressed great honor in being the first nonprofit to receive this award.
"We are very honored to receive this award and to be recognized at the state level for making such a positive impact on the Town of Fairfield, which is a wonderful place to live and work," Reid said. "I would especially like to thank the FTC team, our Board of Directors, our elected representatives, and all of our patrons, donors and sponsors. We simply couldn't have done it without them. It is truly our pleasure to serve this great community."
