TV News Roundup: Miley Cyrus, Larry David, Tom Hanks & More to Appear on NBC’s ‘Maya & Marty’ Premiere

“Maya & Marty” has enlisted a crop of A-list guest stars, plus VH1 has set the premiere date for “Barely Famous” Season 7, in Thursdays’s TV news roundup . . .

CASTING

“Maya & Marty,” NBC’s variety show starring Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, has enlisted guest stars for the first episode on May 31: Larry David, Jimmy FallonTom Hanks and Miley Cyrus, who is now in the NBC family, as an upcoming coach on “The Voice.” The show will feature music, stars and the unique characters of the “SNL” alums. Kenan Thompson and other celebrity guests will also be joining the comedians as guests throughout the season.

“2016 Miss USA” will be co-hosted by Terence J with Laura Brown, Joe Zee, Ali Landry and Crystle Stewart serving as official judges. Model and entrepeneur Ashley Graham will be taking over hosting duties backstage. The show will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will feature a performance by the Backstreet Boys and Grammy nominated Country singer Chris Young. Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan will be crowning her successor on June 5 at 7 p.m. on Fox.

VH1‘s “Barely Famous” which stars Erin and Sara Foster, will debut its second season on June 29 at 10 p.m. Celebrity cameos this season include Chris Martin, Chelsea Handler, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Zach Braff, Kate Upton, Cindy Crawford, Brooke Burke, Dr. Phil, Ali Larter, Lauren London and Joey Fatone. The new season is comprised of six, half-hour episodes.

2016 Tony Awards presenters will include Cate Blanchett, Carole King, Nathan Lane, Audra McDonald, Patina Miller, Saoirse Ronan and Oprah Winfrey. James Corden will be hosting the 70th Tony Awards and 2016 Tony Award nominees Steve Martin and Edie Brickell are also set to appear. The Tony Awards will air on June 12 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Kobe Bryant will be named “Athlete of the Year” at the Guys Choice awards by Spike TV. Other honorees include Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for “Guys of the Decade;” Anna Kendrick for the “Hot & Funny” award; supermodel Gigi Hadid receiving “Our New Girlfriend” award; and Denver Broncos’ linebacker and Super Bowl MVP Von Miller for “Most Unstoppable Jock.” The Guys Choice Awards, hosted by Zac Efron and Adam Devine (“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”) will air June 29 at 9 p.m. on Spike.

INDUSTRY EVENTS

The Paley Center for Media will showcase “The Artistry of Outlander” exhibit, featuring costumes by Emmy Award winning designer Terry Dresbach and setpieces from production designer Jon Gary Steele from “Outlander.” The event will be free to the public and opens June 8.
