Chief Minister Harish Rawat today emphasised the need to promote a culture of sports among youth in the state. While reviewing the progress of the Department of Sports at a meeting here today, Rawat said a special focus was required at rural, block, district and state level to create a positive atmosphere for sports.
Apart from the popular games, traditional games of Uttarakhand like Murga Jhappat and Gulli Danda too should be promoted. “Traditional sports should be promoted along with the regular games,” he said.
Rawat is of the view that sports officers can start a campaign for spotting talent at the block level so that the talented youth in villages may get a platform to perform. Sport committee of every district should promote and award the talented and national players to motivate the youngsters.
He also asked officials to ensure all necessary infrastructure for the National Games, 2018, and a State Sports Calendar be prepared by November. Sports Minister Dinesh Aggarwal, Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli and Secretary In-Charge Arvind Singh Hyanki were present at the meeting.
