MUMBAI: The State Human Rights Commission has taken suo-moto cognizance of an incident in which an officer from Kandivli police station is seen thrashing a couple on the night of May 11. The rights body on Wednesday sent a notice to deputy police commissioner of zone XI, Vikram Deshmane, asking him to probe and submit a report in four weeks.
Already an inquiry by assistant police commissioner of Borivli division, Sudhakar Pujari, is already underway.

A hotelier who was at the police station then shot a video clip on his cellphone on the premises of Kandivli police station. He said that the couple was at the police station regarding an issue with a cellphone. As they refused to leave, they were separately assaulted with a stick by a uniformed officer.
On May 21, the hotelier submitted a written complaint to the senior inspector, in-charge of Kandivli police station. Chairperson of the state human rights commission, Justice S R Bannurmath, has asked deputy commissioner Deshmane to submit a report by June 26. TNN
