Mohanlal and Major Ravi to team up for a family drama
Even before their movie on the '71 Indo-Pakistani war has gone on floors, Mohanlal and Major Ravi are in talks for another project based on writer Ambika Nair's short story Qutb Minar.
The filmmaker has also roped in the services of scriptwriter John Paul Puthusery for scripting the emotional family drama, set in New Delhi. The script would also mark the comeback of John Paul, whose last script was Prithviraj's Nammal Thammil in 2007.
The short story is about how a bomb blast in New Delhi shatters the lives of two friends and their families.
Mohanlal is reportedly slotted to play the character of a Delhi-based Malayali named Balu in the movie.
Major Ravi tells us, 'We have bought the rights of the story from Ambika Nair and have had an initial discussion with Mohanlal as well.' The filmmaker also explains that the actor has read the story and was pleased with the role. 'However, Mohanlal has told us that he wants to see the complete script by John Paul before he signs the movie. So, the plan now is to develop the story for the screen and begin shooting next year,' says Major Ravi.
Meanwhile, this year the duo is set to film the sequel to their Major Mahadevan franchise in September. Mohanlal too seems excited about the upcoming project that he will join soon after director Jibu Jacob's movie, which is based on a short story by V J James.
On Major Ravi's war movie, the actor explains, 'It's a big film that involves a lot of military tank fights.' The director explains that the team has taken permission from the Army. 'We are granted 30-day access to the army site in Rajasthan and will have to wind up all the military scenes within the stipulated time,' he concludes.
