Jewellery loot of Rs 26 lakh in Navsari, gang of six arrested
SURAT: Police arrested a gang of six for an armed robbery of jewellery and cash worth Rs 26.47 lakh from a jewellery showroom on Jhaveri Sadak of Navsari on Thursday. One of the robbers was nabbed from spot by locals after which police questioned him and nabbed other robbers. The robbers fired one round in air while escaping to terrify the locals when the bullet hit their own gang member and left in injured.
Police arrested Suraj Yadav, 23, Avdhesh Jadav, 36, Javed Ali alias Guddu Mohammad Shafiq Ansari, 29, Navinkumar Ravindra Singh, 26, Kameshwar Mahtu, 33, and Samsher Farooq Mohammad, 22.
All currently residing at Jalalpor near Navsari and have come for employment from Bihar.
The robbers entered in Mahakali Jewellers at around 2.30 pm and threatened the staff showing a pistol and some sharp weapons. They asked to hand over all the valuables available in the shop and escaped from the showroom. Meanwhile those present in the showroom shouted for help when locals nabbed one of the robbers, Suraj Yadav.
On being informed police arrived at the spot and questioned Yadav to get details about other robbers. Based on information by Yadav police raided the residence of Iqbalbhai in Gauri Shankar Maholla of Jalalpore and nabbed the other five accused. Police recovered a knife, a hammer and a country made pistol from the robbers.
