Kancha Ilaiah booked for hurting religious sentiments

HYDERABAD: Following a direction from Ranga Reddy district court, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Professor kancha Ilaiah was booked by Saroornagar police on Wednesday for allegedly hurting the feelings of a community.
Saroornagar police said that in connection with a lecture given by Ilaiah on May 14 in Vijayawada while participating in a programme Nationalism and Divergent Views organised by CITU, Ilaiah allegedly spoke criticising Hindu gods and scriptures.

On knowing the professor's speech, an Advocate Karunasagar moved a private petition in XI Metropolitan Magistrate court, Ranga Reddy, requesting to register an FIR and probe him under relevant sections of IPC.
The court few days ago directed Saroornagar police to register a case under 295 A ( Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person).
