THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has said that the Centre has betrayed the people of Kerala by deciding to give permission for the Italian marines to return to their country.
The Italian marines who have killed two of the fishermen of the country should not have been allowed to leave the country. By taking this decision the Centre has betrayed the entire fisher folks of the country.
"It is quiet surprising and seriously concerned about the fact the counsel of the Centre did not oppose the application given by the Italian to return to his country.
The National Investigation Agency is yet to file its chargesheet into the incident that had occurred in 2012. Even though Italy approached the International tribunal received stay on the Indian court proceedings, the BJP government at the Centre did nothing to get vacate this stay," Chandy.
The NDA government has shown criminal negligence in the case and was not interested in carrying forward with the case. The previous UPA government and the previous UDF government in the state had made it clear that the Italian government should abide the law of India. But at present the Centre is providing all support to the Italian government in this case, he added.
